Sleep Study in Thailand

Do you snore loudly, wake frequently during the night, or experience daytime sleepiness? A professional sleep assessment can help doctors understand what is happening during your sleep and determine whether further treatment or evaluation may be appropriate.

What Is a Sleep Study

A Sleep Study (Polysomnography) is a comprehensive overnight examination that monitors what happens to your body while you sleep. It records important signals such as brain activity, breathing, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, eye movements, muscle activity, and other sleep-related activity.

Why Consider a Sleep Study?

Poor sleep is not always simply a matter of feeling tired. Sleep disturbances can sometimes be associated with conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea, sleep-related movement disorders, parasomnias, or other sleep disorders.

A professional sleep assessment can help doctors understand what is happening during your sleep and determine whether further treatment or evaluation may be appropriate.

You May Benefit From a Sleep Study If You:

  • Snore loudly or frequently

  • Experience pauses in breathing during sleep

  • Wake up frequently throughout the night

  • Feel unusually sleepy or fatigued during the day

  • Wake up feeling unrefreshed or with a morning headache

  • Experience teeth grinding during sleep

  • Sleepwalk or experience unusual movements or behaviors during sleep

  • Have frequent nightmares or disturbed sleep

A doctor will assess your symptoms and medical history to determine whether a sleep study is appropriate for you.

What to Expect During Your Hospital Visit

A sleep study is generally performed overnight in a dedicated sleep laboratory or hospital room, allowing medical staff to monitor your sleep throughout the night.

1. Consultation & Assessment

Before the study, you will meet with a doctor or sleep specialist to discuss your symptoms, sleeping habits, and medical history. The doctor will determine whether the test is appropriate and explain what to expect.

2. Check-In & Preparation

You will arrive at the hospital in the afternoon or evening, check into your room, and have time to get comfortable before the assessment begins.

3. Sensor Placement

A sleep technician will attach small sensors to areas such as the head, face, chest, abdomen, legs, and fingers. These sensors record your body's natural signals while you sleep. The equipment is attached to the skin and does not involve needles or implanted devices.

4. Sleep Monitoring

You will sleep overnight while the equipment continuously records your sleep-related activity. Depending on the hospital, video monitoring may also be used to observe sleeping position and unusual movements or behaviors.

5. Morning Check-Out

After you wake up, the technician will remove the sensors. Your recorded data will then be analyzed by a specialist, who can discuss the findings and recommend next steps if necessary.
